Eden Hill Vineyard 2010 Cynthiana-Tempranillo Reserve

Eden Hill 2010 Cynthiana-Tempranillo Reserve

2010 Cynthiana-Tempranillo (1)

One of the things I like about going to new Texas wineries is the fact it involves a road trip. The best road trips happen when the kid is at grandmother’s house for the weekend – this was one of those trips. Last October we decided to do a local tasting that was just north from us located Celina, Texas. I really wish I would have actually used my camera or the very least my iPhone to take pictures of the vines on the property; however it was a quick last minute decision and we got started tasting upon arrival.

The Cynthiana-Tempranillo Reserve is a limited estate wine as they only bottled 12 cases. The grapes are actually grown on property in Celina in this up and coming vineyard. As we got started the wine gave off a beautiful color that was clear, and a brilliant deep ruby red. This wine is unfiltered, but we saw little if any sediment in the bottle we brought home.

The bouquet was very aromatic, immediately showing its bouquet with lots of berries-blueberry, red cherry and raspberry with a hint of strawberry in the mix. Upon tasting the wine we got a nice, soft, and silky mouth feel with smooth tannins. It is a full bodied wine full of ripe cherries, dried fruits, plums and vanilla with maybe a hint of licorice in the far back.

This wine would be great with roast pork or lamb and better yet steak. My wife’s side note stated that she loved all the cherries and fruit forwardness of this wine while still having great body and complexity.

On a scale of 1 to 10 we rated this wine an 8. Last but not least I wish I could have stated the price we paid for this bottle. Another reason to remember to take good notes to have to compare later when you open that bottle you purchased. Cheers!
